First Church in Charlestown (first) is built.

The home of the first Congregational Society of Charlestown, which was established on November 2, 1631, it is located between Market Square and the Charlestown Neck. Rev. Thomas James is the first pastor. Zachariah Symmes soon becomes the first teacher. The congregation met initially under the Charlestown Oak, then in the Great House, and builds a new church (second) in 1639,* another next door (third) next door in 1716,* another (fourth) in 1783,* and the current church (fifth) in 1834.* The congregation incorporates as the First Parish Church in Charlestown in 1803, merges with the Winthrop Church in September 1912, and incorporates as the First Church in Charlestown in 1913.
